The Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba has announced on Thursday that the university is reopening on Tuesday, July 31.

Aggrey Abate issued an administrative order based on the recommendation of the deans’ board meeting of July 25 to reopen the university, Bakhita Radio reported.

He also issued another order to dismiss all the students who refused to leave the hostels because the students disobeyed a previous administrative order.

Professor Abate said appeals for the dismissed students’ readmission will be considered individually.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that the university was unable to open one month ago because previous administrative orders to vacate university hostels were ignored.

He said efforts by the University administration, relevant Government institutions, members of parliament and concerned individuals to persuade students to leave the hostels failed.

Professor Abate said the University administration has all the names of the students in the hostels but refused to reveal the number of those who are still in the University hostels.

The University of Juba was closed at the end of March after a fight between two students that spread into inter-ethnic clashes in the campus.
