The Juba City Council is buying extra trucks to increase the number of garbage carriers operating in the national capital and beyond.

Mayor Mohammed Alhaj Babala was publicly criticized several times by President Salva Kiir Mayardit for failing to maintain the city clean.

He told Bakhita Radio that the first delivery consists of 20 cranes and compacters.

Mr Babala said the City Council was using only 11 garbage carriers to clean the whole city.

He promised that Juba City will have many garbage trucks by the end of the year, operating in Juba and in some counties within Central Equatoria.

The City Council on Saturday launched a door-to-door garbage collection campaign in Juba on Saturday.
