Students from private universities have spoken up over the closure of private higher education institutions operating in the country.

Last week, Higher Education minister Peter Adwok Nyaba closed down 22 private universities because they do not meet the requirements to operate.

Bakhita Radio talked to Patrick Zachariah, a student from Bridge University. He said the closure of private universities undermines students in private institutions.

He acknowledged that the minister is partially genuine to close some private universities but he should follow the right procedures to address the different institutions one by one.

John Manyok, who studies at Bridge University, said there are no written documents closing down the private universities and he hopes his institution reopens soon.

Taifa Kur said the minister abused his powers when he decided to close 22 private universities.

He added that South Sudan has an urgent need of qualified South Sudanese to run the country and lack of education is leaving people without a job.

The Association of Private Universities on Monday presented a memo to the President of the Republic requesting him to revoke the decision of the minister of Higher Education.
