The Catholic Bishop of Torit has called on Christians to support catechists as they hold the light of evangelization in rural communities.

Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek told the congregation at the newly established St. Mary Magdalene-Rwoto Parish that the diocese of Torit is setting up a mechanism for Christians to support their catechists, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He says catechists can easily access places before priests reach them and they are critical for the Christian communities.

Bishop Akio made these statements during his he pastoral to St Mary Magdalene-Rwoto Parish on Monday.

During his pastoral tours, Bishop Akio discusses the formation of parish pastoral and finance councils, youth activities and non-active projects in the parishes.

He also reviews spiritual, physical and human development of the parishes and gives doctrinal instructions.
