The Catholic diocese of Tambura-Yambio has organized a two-workshop with partners to prepare a nutrition survey in Western Equatoria.

Emergency Response Programme Manager Peter Saru Paul told Anisa FM that his sector is supporting the state ministry of health to conduct a baseline survey on nutrition in Ezo, Nagero, and Mvolo counties.

Mr Saru said the main objective of the survey is to establish a database about the nutrition status of children in the state.

He added that after the planning workshop that concluded Wednesday the organization will train data collectors to undertake the survey.

Mr Saru said people call Western Equatoria the breadbasket of South Sudan but the state has cases of malnutrition among children because many families eat only one meal a day.

He added that food security does not depend only on food availability but also on a balanced diet.

Mr Saru urged residents to start small gardens to grow vegetables and raise poultry to have a better diet.
