The President of the Republic has called on the citizens of South Sudan to till the land, produce food to get rid of famine looming over the country.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told the crowd celebrating SPLA Day in Juba that they have to produce their own food and beat hunger.

He said security is a common responsibility and South Sudan has to be built on the rule of law.

President Kiir commented that Jonglei was almost slipping into lawlessness before the disarmament started in mid March.

The President instructed the Mayor of Juba City Council to clean the town because the capital is very dirty and gives a bad image to visitors.

Juba commemorated SPLA’s twenty ninth anniversary with a rally at Dr John Garang’s Tomb.

A good crowd turned up for the event that included prayers, speeches, traditional dances and a military parade.
