India has dispatched its special envoy for the second time to South Sudan and Sudan to try to break the stalemate between both countries and resume negotiations.

Amarendra Khatua held talks in Khartoum with UN special envoy Haile Menkerios and senior officials of Sudan’s foreign ministry on Tuesday, The Times of India reported.

The special envoy urged authorities in Khartoum to comply with the UN Security Council resolution earlier this month which seeks to end all disputes related to oil and other issues.

He also offered all possible help from India to end hostilities

On Wednesday, Mr Khatuae met with government officials in Juba.

He is expected to meet African Union mediator Thabo Mbeki later this week.

India has offered to play a role in the resumption of discussions between the two countries in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa over the oil dispute.

India’s ONGC Videsh is one of the main producers of crude in South Sudan and Sudan.
