South Sudan’s chief negotiator for post independence outstanding issues said today that the UN must pressure Khartoum to return to the negotiating table in Addis Ababa.

Pagan Amum told the crowd celebrating SPLA Day at Dr John Garang’s Tomb in Juba that the Government supports UN Security Council Resolution 2064 and is ready to resume negotiations with Khartoum under the AU Panel auspices.

He said the UN must press Khartoum to return to negotiations, stop bombing South Sudan and withdraw its forces from Abyei and other occupied areas in Western Bahr Ghazal state.

Mr Pagan was speaking at SPLA’s twenty ninth anniversary celebrations.
