South Sudan Police and Prison Services have established 17 personnel database units to manage its staff.

The Japanese government funded the initiative with 1.2 million US Dollars.

UNDP Country Director George Conway explained that through the initiative so far 11 database units for police services and six for prison services were established.

He explained that so far 57 police and prison personnel received training to operate the database system.

Mr Conway said 66 percent of the estimated 52.000 police personnel and five percent of the estimated 20,000 prison personnel were already registered.

He explained that the personnel database registration was a very important tool for the government to manage its human resources in the police and prisons services which were largely formed with ex-combatants.

Mr Conway was speaking at the opening of the Advanced Training on Registration Database Management training.

35 police and prison personnel will receive a five-day training on Registration Database Management including system administration and networking.

Another batch of 35 police and prison personnel from will go through the same training later on the month.
