The National Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said the Foreign Minister of Norway promised to honour the independence promise to construct a national archive in South Sudan.
Cirino Hiteng Ofuho told CRN that the pledge is materializing as discussions between his ministry and the Norwegian Embassy are at an advanced stage.He said the parties are consulting with experts on architectural designs and the bidding process should be launched soon.
The minister added that some drawings have already reached the Ministry.
Undersecretary Jok Madut Jok is assigned to follow the national archive project.
Mr Hiteng said the archive would be constructed between Independence Square and Juba University grounds, near John Garang Memorial.
He added that the ministry is planning to build a museum and a national theatre.
Mr Hiteng revealed that recently South Sudan drama team performed very well in the Shakespeare Festival in the UK.
Most of South Sudan’s historic documents are sitting in a tent on the compound of Central Equatoria ministry of Culture at the mercy of mice, white ants, dust, humidity and hit.
