Wau Teaching Hospital is in dire need of medics to attend emergency cases.

The closing of Medicine colleges in South Sudan led to the shortage of medical doctors.

Medical Director for Emergency Anwar Zachariah told Voice of Hope that there are no new graduates of medical personnel to run emergency wards.

He said medical staff is not enough to help in all the sections of Wau Teaching Hospital.

Dr Zachariah explained that the universities are not producing new medical doctors and hospital services are affected due to shortages of doctors and overload of work.

Luka Lual Lual, waiting for a doctor at the emergency ward, said the shortage of medics is linked to lack of education and of proper qualified personnel.

Wau Teaching Hospital receives patients from five states.

It has eight doctors, 14 medicals and seven specialists, too short to offer services to all the patients needing medical attention at the facility.
