Western Bahr El Ghazal Workers Trade Union is hosting a four-day training on women’s rights and public sector regulations in the work place.
The workshop started Tuesday with the support of a French political foundation, Voice of Hope reported. The training focuses on the public sector regulations but it also touches the private sector.
About 50 women from the three states of Greater Bahr El-Ghazal are attending the training.
Mou Ambrose Thiik said the training aims at developing the capacity of the Trade Union members on Labour, Pension and Public Service laws.
He added that there were also other related women’s issues about gender rights violation and sexual abuse at work places.
Mr Ambrose said the prevalence of gender based violence can be minimized only if women are made aware of their rights and know where to get support.
He added that gender based violence and rape happen also at home and can cause many health and mental issues if women are not assisted properly.
Mr Ambrose noted that the only remedy against gender based violence and women’s discrimination is to look at women as equal partners.
