WOMEN, MEN RELIGIOUS REVIEW ROLE IN SOUTH SUDAN

Some 70 women and men religious are starting tomorrow morning in Juba a three-day workshop to reflect on their mission at the light f the second synod of bishops for Africa.

Manny Ginete, from Solidarity with South Sudan, is part of the organizing committee. He told CRN that the religious will assess their role, review the history of each congregation and see their commitment to peace, justice and reconciliation in South Sudan.

Fr Ginete said the religious have a special role to play in South Sudan in different areas of apostolate, including education, health and pastoral.

He explained that in day one the different congregations will share what they are doing in South Sudan; in day two the participants will reflect on the vision of the second African Synod for the religious in Africa; and in day three they map out some common activities, including the establishment of an Association of Religious in South Sudan.

Fr Ginete explained that the Association of Religious is important to assist bishops and local priest and coordinate among different congregations to work together towards a better ministry in South Sudan.

He added that new institutes are coming in after the independence and it is important to work together and coordinate their many activities.
