The Catholic bishops of South Sudan and Sudan have postponed their annual meeting due to the political tensions between the two countries.
The bishops of both countries form the SCBC, Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and meet at least once a year in a plenary assembly to debate issues relevant to the Catholic Church in both nations. The SCBR-Khartoum Secretary General, Santino Morokomomo, circulated a message saying that Cardinal Zubeir Wako canceled the SCBC Plenary Assembly scheduled for Juba from June 12 to 17, 2012.
The note added that the SCBC meeting will depend on the development of the political situation.
Cardinal Zubeir, the archbishop of Khartoum, is the current SCBC president.
