The Government of South Sudan is asking IGAD, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, to mediate the talks on post-independent issues with the Sudan.
IGAD was one of the main negotiators of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended the longest civil war in Africa.Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin is in Nairobi, Kenya, to brief the Kenyan Government on the border attacks by Sudanese forces.
Dr Marial had harsh words for the African Union for their silence over the constant attacks of Sudan against South Sudan’s territory.
He added that if the AU is not able to find a positive solution to the conflict IGAD should step in and mediate a settlement between Juba and Khartoum.
