The Governments of South Sudan and Sudan have agreed to resume barge transport for returnees stranded in Kosti.

Khartoum closed the river to transport returnees accusing South Sudan of use the barges to transport troops to the borders.

There are about 7,000 Southerners waiting for transport from Kosti to their final destinations in South Sudan.

The first barge convoy organized by IOM, the International Migration Organization, should leave Kosti in the middle of the month.

1,593 returnees in difficult situation were flown to Juba, Awel and Wau until the end of March.

Another 653 are waiting for a place in a plane.

IOM is moving 1,500 returnees from Renk to Juba by barge to ease the transit camps in Upper Nile.
