Christians in the Republic of South Sudan have been urged to contribute towards promoting peace and reconciliation among the different tribal groups in the country.

The Superior general of the Divine Wold Society, Filipino father Antonio Pernia, told Radio Easter this morning that it was very important that Christians acted as bridge builders among the groups and parties in the country.

He added that fundamentally the Church is a sacrament of unity and reconciliation as it brings people together.

Fr Pernia said South Sudan has a large youth population who can become a very powerful resource for the rebuilding of the new nation if they are provided with opportunities.

The General Superior of the Divine Word Missionaries said the central objective of their coming to Lainya is to work together with the Catholic community so that eventually it will become a parish.
