Thousands of children from South Sudan, Northern Uganda and Tanzania are dying of nodding disease, a mysterious illness that was registered in 2003 and does not have a cure.

The Syndrome of Nod affects only children between five and 15 years of age causing uncontrollable spasms that lead to death.

The convulsions are strong enough to cause unconsciousness, thus exposing the victims to various accidents such as burns or drowning.

The nodding sickness does not pass from person to person.
