The University of Juba in collaboration with an American institution has launched today the Institute of Development Technologies that will work for high leadership training and attract investors to build high speed internet systems.

University of Juba Vice Chancellor Aggrey Abate described the IDT, Institute of Development Technologies, as a resource bank for government, development partners and private sector to benefit from its specialized services.

He underlined the need for the stakeholders to support IDT initiatives to fulfil its goals.

Prof Abate explained that through the IDT government resources can be able to generate development solutions that are uniquely local and appropriate to the new nation’s history and environment.

Prof Abate urged the development partners to support the IDT to start operating by contracting it to deliver services or make material donation.

He stressed the IDT could generate good income to the University of Juba that can be used to expand its services and improve the teaching environment.

Prof Abate added that through the IDT initiative the university will move its distant learning programs online.

George Rubangumya is the President of Pinnacle Group LLC, an American company who collaborates in the IDT setup. He said the IDT will mobilize resources to provide highest level leadership training and private sector capacity building in areas of legislative drafting among others.

He added the there are many American universities ready to work with the University of Juba to build its capacity and train human capital in the country.

Mr Rubangumya added that the IDT will offer advice to South Sudan government to use the skills that are available at the University of Juba and from South Sudanese in diaspora to give the new republic high skills.

He explained that the IDT will promote capital investment in information technology and that it will bring investors to build a high speed internet service system connecting the nine state’s capitals and the counties with Juba.

The IDT launch was witness by the national Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Peter Adwok.
