Aged civil servants are forging birth certificates to postpone retirement in Eastern Equatoria and the state Ministry of Public Service and Human Resource Development failed to compile data on civil servants due for pension.
Minister Emilio William Odingila told Radio Emmanuel that there are civil servants who are ready to retire but got rid of old birth certificates and put forged age assessments in their files. The minister observed that old civil servants have records saying that although they were recruited in the seventies, they are still in their forties.
Mr Odingila said efforts to clarify the real age of elderly civil servants have been fruitless because the officers entrusted to collect the data on pensionable civil servants failed to perform their duties.
He assured that the state government will establish a committee to check every ministry hunting for civil servants legible for pension on a yearly basis.
Mr Odingila complained that the forging of age assessment certificates increased during the interim period as elderly civil servants felt threatened by more educated colleagues and forged the age to retire later.
