TIME FOR SOUTH SUDAN TO PROTECT NATURAL RESOURCES

Lakes State Governor said yesterday that it was time the people of South Sudan stood firm to protect the country’s natural resources.

Governor Chol Tong Mayay made the statement in his address during a peaceful demonstration held in Rumbek to show solidarity with a recent decision by the Council of Ministers to halt oil production in South Sudan,

He reiterated that the people of Lakes State fully supported the government’s decision.

Eng Tong recalled that the people of South Sudan have suffered for a long time without oil and would be willing to survive a little longer without it.

He said the people of Lakes State have always been in the forefront in the quest for a free South Sudan, calling on the youth to stand firm against anyone who is out to steal their property.

He congratulated the youth for turning out for the peaceful demonstration.

Eng Tong added that the President of Sudan and his supporters will not be allowed to take oil from South Sudan.

The Speaker of Lakes State’s Assembly, John Marik Makur, condemned the Sudanese government for continuously stealing South Sudan’s natural resources.

He said the people of South Sudan can overcome the difficult situation without oil revenues.

The speaker assured the people of South Sudan of the Lakes State Assembly’s solidarity with the President’s decision.
