Lakes State’s Social Development Ministry yesterday handed out eight motorbikes to persons with disabilities.
Governor Chol Tong Mayay said over 20 motorbikes have so far been distributed, adding that the State Government is looking forward to distributing more in the state’s next budget.He said that the state does not have data about the number of persons with disabilities but the government indentified a number of wounded heroes and disabled people.
Governor Chol added it is already his government’s plan to give out more motorbikes adding that he will be asking county commissioners to carry out a survey to identify persons with disabilities all over the state.
He said he instructed the county commissioners to support the most vulnerable and those being given motorbikes with the fuel.
Eng Chol added that disability is a major challenge in the country, pointing out that the number of wounded heroes is higher than those who are disabled by diseases such as polio.
He thanked the Minister for Social Development for the initiative, urging those who did not receive the support to remain patient because more are on the way.
