The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance has condemned the non consultation of civil society groups during the process leading to the formation of the National Constitutional Review Commission.

Biel Boutrus Biel, secretary-general of Civil Society Alliance, told journalists yesterday that it was regrettable that the authorities did not consult the biggest civil society umbrella group before establishing the commission tasked with reviewing the Constitution.

Mr Boutrus said civil society groups were not invited to the Political Leadership Forum that took place on January 6 in Juba in violation of the Transitional Constitution.

One Civil Society Alliance member was appointed to the commission to represent all civil society groups in South Sudan.

The group is asking for another four members from the civil society to be appointed to the Commission.

Mr Boutrus said the Alliance will not allow their appointed member, Dong Samuel Luak, to take oath until another four civil society members are appointed to the National Constitutional Review Commission.

He urged the chairperson of the National Constitutional Review Commission, Prof Akolda Maan Tier, to make contacts with the Civil Society Alliance leadership and avoid the mistakes done during Transitional Constitution review process.
