About 2,000 returnees are stranded in Juba between the way station and the river port waiting for transportation to their final destination or the allocation of a plot of land.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) public information officer Samantha Dongken told CRN News that most of the returnees are settled at the way station managed by UNHCR, the UN agency for refugees.

She added that during the day those returnees are brought to the port in order to identify their luggage that was transported by different barges.

Ms Dongken said returnees to be settled in Juba are waiting for land allocation, which Ð she added Ð is a very slow process and can take months.

Ms Dongken said about 780 returnees are living within Juba Port facilities and more than 450 are bound for Juba.

She added that they are waiting to receive a plot of land from the authorities.

The returnees were transported by IOM from Kosti, in the Sudan, and Renk, near Malakal, to Juba by barge.
