The UN does not have enough helicopters to start what it named the most expensive and complex humanitarian operation in South Sudan.

More than 60 thousand people were affected by the latest wave of inter-tribal conflict in Pibor, Jonglei State, and are in dire need of food, medicines and shelter.

Lise Grande, UN deputy humanitarian coordinator for South Sudan, told the press yesterday in Juba that the WFP has only one helicopter to fly life saving assistance to the affected areas of Jonglei and it would need at least another three aircraft.

Ms Grande said lack of food stocks in place is a major obstacle facing the operation together with the lack of implementing partners operating in the region.

She condemned the looting of MSF facilities in Pibor, urging people to respect the humanitarian agencies.

Ms Grande said UNOCHA is consolidating logistics framework to start flying high nutrition food, clean water and health care means to Eastern Jonglei.
