The UN said education programmes at refugee camps in South Sudan are a major concern and it planning to establish programmes of primary and secondary schools together with vocational training in Unity and Upper Nile refugee camps.
UN chief for the refugees Antonio Guterres told yesterday the press in Juba that UNHCR was discussing a programme to create opportunities for displaced children in primary and secondary education and vocational training.Mr Guterres made this statement after visiting a refugee camp in Yida, Unity State.
He said the UNHCR plans to relocate the Yida camp to a more secure location.
Mr Guterres urged the authorities to keep the refugee camps as civilian and humanitarian areas without guns and military personnel.
He added that the UNHCR has already invested 18 million US dollars to assist Sudanese refugees in Upper Nile State.
Currently there are more than 75 thousands Sudanese refugees in South Sudan: 54 thousands in different locations in Upper Nile and over 21,300 in Unity State running from the war in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
