POPE GREETS SOUTH SUDAN

The Pope has greeted the people of South Sudan and asked for united efforts towards peace and development in the new country.

Pope Benedict told the ambassadors accredited to the Holy See on Monday during the traditional New Year’s address that was very happy that South Sudan became independent in a peaceful way.

He said he hoped that all may united their efforts to enable the people of Sudan and South Sudan to experience a period of peace, freedom and development in 2012.

The Pope decried tensions and clashes that took place in recent months in the country.
