The national interior minister has pledged today that there will be a strong control to prevent foreigners from getting South Sudanese passports and other personal documents.

Alison Manani Magaya said that the issuing of this second generation of passports will be strict to prevent non-nationals to access the document and unauthorized nationals to get the special and diplomatic passports.

Mr.Manani warned that those caught selling passports to foreigners will be punished severely.

He said the ministry will gradually remove the first generation passports now that the new electronic international pass is already in use.

Mr Manani said the minister of foreign affairs will set a schedule to revoke all the categories of passports – diplomatic, special and ordinary – from the first generation because they will be invalidated.

The interior minister admitted that after independence too many diplomatic passports were issued to unauthorized persons.

Mr Manani was speaking during the launching ceremony of new personal documents in South Sudan.
