The President of the Republic has received this morning is nationality certificate, identity card and passport in a ceremony marking the launch of new personal documents in the Republic of South Sudan.
Salva Kiir Mayardit was the first citizen to receive the new nationality certificate, ID card and a dark red covered diplomatic passport.He said the SPLA leaders during the war were using friendly countries’ passports to travel to other abroad, but now South Sudan has its own national and international documents.
President Kiir thanked those countries who issued their passports to some South Sudanese.
He appealed for the people of South Sudan to take care of their personal identification documents and not to allow them to go into the wrong hands because they belong to the Republic of South Sudan.
The President warned officers and top government officials to respect the formal process to issue personal documents.
President Kiir added that the interior and the foreign affairs ministers must ensure that diplomatic and special passports are issued to right people.
He urged the authorities to avoid the mistakes made while issuing the first generation of passports, where many common people received special and diplomatic passports.
