An education official in Rumbek has lauded Lakes State authorities for ensuring that peace and order prevailed during the festive season.
Peter Gum Ater, Deputy Director of Rumbek Senior Secondary School, speaking to Good News Radio thanked Governor Chol Tong Mayay and the State’s security organs for putting in place strict security measures over Christmas and New Year festivities.He said that he is looking forward to a more food secure state in 2012, calling on the Minister for Agriculture to work closely with the Governor to distribute farming tools to address overreliance on cattle raring and food imports from neighbouring countries.
Mr Gum recalled how Lakes State lost many people to war between 1983 and 2005 and advised communities to avoid conflicts.
He attributed the prevailing stability in Lakes State to God’s intervention.
Mr Gum advocated for better cooperation between State authorities and the public against insecurity, adding that all cattle raiders should be disarmed and people go back to agriculture.
Security was tight in and around places of worship on the eve of Christmas and New Year in Rumbek.
