South Sudanese who have been serving in the police of Sudan have been officially absorbed into South Sudan Police Service today after they were disowned by the Khartoum government following the independence.
More than 300 former police and custom officers joined officially the South Sudan Police Service after being sworn-in at the police headquarters in Juba.Addressing the ceremony, President Salva Kiir Mayardit asked the officers to be vigilant in their term of service while keeping the law.
He told the police officers that they have to protect the Transitional Constitution.
President Kiir advised the officers to abide by the police code of conduct and do their best in curbing criminality.
Inspector General of Police Achuil Tito Madut urged the police officers not to segregate their new comrades in the service, but embrace love and unity for a better and collective service.
Alison Magaya, the minister of Interior, warned the officers to keep away from malpractices while handling the country’s revenues.
Mr. Magaya said the new officers will join the customs police while others will be deployed as border police forces.
The new officers will be deployed at all the country’s borders to protect the country against smuggling, collect revenue on goods, detect and deter narcotics trafficking.
