The Chairman of the Boda-boda Association has condemned in the strongest terms the ban of motorbike-taxis from the central streets of Juba imposed by the interior ministry without notice to his office.

Last Friday, Deputy ministry of Interior Salva Mathok Gengdit issued an order banning the use of motorbike-taxis popularly known as boda-boda from the main streets of Juba city.

Police started arresting boda-boda riders across the city centre since the order was public.

Abraham Jok said such order should be issued only after prior notification to his office.

Mr. Abraham said the boda-boda riders have been banned from the city centre but the order does not define the boundaries of Juba’s city centre.

He added that the deputy minister said he banned the boda-bodas from the city centre to control accidents and crime.

Mr. Abraham dismissed the reasons for the ban, saying that cars also cause many accidents.

According to the ban, boda-boda riders have to drop their clients at Hai Mobil, Hai Malakia, University and Old Customs.
