The Juba Civic Engagement Centre has run out of money and it is urging civil society groups, the government and the donors to assist in order to pay fuel, water and internet bills.

Peter Lasu Ladu, the chairman of the Centre, explained to CRN News that the institution faced many challenges to execute its programmes due to the high cost of energy.

He said the generator consumes 1,000 litters of diesel per month, costing 6,000 pounds.

He added that the internet provider has disconnected the service because the centre did not pay over 3,200 dollars for a three-month advance fee.

Mr. Lasu said the Juba Civic Engagement Centre has been very busy hosting over 100 workshops for civil society organizations since it was inaugurated on August.

He added that more than 120 people learned how to use the computers and access the internet in the centre.

Mr Ladu urged civil society groups in Juba to use the centre for their activities instead of paying high prices in first class hotels.

He added that the centre offers quality services at a minimum cost.

Mr Ladu extended the same offer to the government and the international institutions in Juba, stressing that the Juba Civic Engagement Centre needs their support for its sustainability.

The centre was built and equipped by USAID and Mercy Corps.
