The SPLM caucus in Jonglei State Legislative Assembly convened a meeting to tackle issues of insecurity in the state and the role of lawmakers.

Former Jonglei Governor Philip Thon told Bakhita Radio that the meeting will also focus on the duties of the committees of MPs representing Jonglei State in the National Assembly.

He said cattle rustling is the major cause of insecurity in Jonglei that needed to be contained by the state authorities.

He revealed that the latest cattle raids were carried out less than one week ago in Akol Anyok and Akobo. At least four people were killed.

Mr. Thon denied any form of enmity from the Murle people against neighbouring communities in Jonglei.

He explained that cattle raiding is a Murle cultural and non political attitude: they feel that all cattle belongs to them.

Jonglei is one of the most unsecure states across the country due to frequent cattle rustling and activities of some rebel groups including forces loyal to George Athor.
