Cases of malaria are increasing at an alarming rate in Western Bahr el Ghazal state and various hospitals and clinics are giving top priority to the growing number of victims.
Medical reports from different institutions indicate that malaria cases have topped the records over the past months.Sr. Rosemary Oduol, Matron at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital in Wau, told Voice of Hope FM that the cases of malaria doubled every month since June.
The hospital in August alone registered 1,524 cases.
Majok Malek Ruom, Wau Teaching Hospital medical director, said cases of malaria are shocking in the state and reached a pick during August and the first weeks of September.
Dr. Malek added that the hospital ran out of anti-malaria drugs and patients have to look for them in private stores.
Dr. Majok said there are not enough beds for patients with malaria and many are lying in the veranda of the hospital.
Chaplain Kenyi Simon, assistant clinical officer at Grinti military hospital, reported that reoccurring cases of malaria are alarming.
He said that many patients are going back to the hospital few days after treatment with the same symptoms.
