The ongoing eye cataract camp at Rumbek State Hospital is targeting 300 patients and close to 100 were already operated upon by Thursday afternoon.

Geremiah Kayombo Mtweve, program manager with Triple A, the Arkangelo Ali Association, told Good News Radio that the eye surgery camp started on Monday.

It was one week after the original schedule, due to late delivery of medical supplies from Nairobi.

He said the two-week long eye surgery camp organized by Triple A is targeting some 300 patients.

Eighty four were already operated upon by Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Mtweve said the annual eye cataract camp by Triple A started in 2007 and it had always taken place at Mary Immaculate Hospital of Mapuordit, in Yirol West County.

This is the first year that the camp is organized in Rumbek.

Insecurity from intercommunity violent conflicts prevented some patients from reaching Mapuordit.

Tipple A plans to organize five cataract camps next year in Rumbek, Yirol and Mapuordit.
