A cattle raid earlier on in the week forced thousands of residents at Mayendit County in Unity State to flee their homes fearing further attacks.

Attackers from Warrap state destroyed crops and stole thousands of cattle, killing over 40 people.

A team of humanitarian agencies led by South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission secretary for Leer County Wal Yach Gatkouth went to the scene to assess the situation, SCRN News correspondent reported.

Gatluak Peter, a team leader from Unity State Legislative Assembly, said the displaced are camping in different places of neighbouring counties.

He called on humanitarian agencies to assist Mayendit displaced people with food, plastic sheets, cooking materials and water.

Mr. Peter added that the state government will do everything possible to secure and protect civilians from any threat related to insecurity.

The accurate number of displaced people has not yet been independently verified.
