Returnees sitting for English classes in Rumbek are appreciating the learning opportunity saying it will help them communicate better in their new context.

Lakes State Ministry of Education organized afternoon English lessons for returnees and the sessions have been going on for the last month.

Simon Poth Kachuol thanked the Government of Lakes State and the Ministry of Education on the returnees’ behalf for the opportunity to study English.

He told Good News Radio that the sessions are attended by boys and girls who were in primary and secondary schools in Khartoum.

Mr. Poth said the lessons will help those brought up in the Arabic pattern of education to cope with the English pattern of South Sudan.

Mr. Poth encouraged his fellow returnees to make good use of this opportunity to learn English, explaining that they did not have such chance in Khartoum.

He said hopes to be able to teach English next year.

English is the official and national language of the Republic of South Sudan.
