SHEIKHS CALL FOR UNITY AS MUSLIMS CELEBRATE EID EL FITR

South Sudanese Muslim leaders expressed happiness for the Eid el Fitr, the end of Ramadan, and called for unity and stability among the people in the country.

Sheikh Musa Lam Athem of Kuwaiti Mosque in Juba town told SCR News that Muslims want stability in South Sudan so that there is harmony in the country.

He said the world is watching South Sudan because its enemies have predicted that the country is going to be a failed state.

He added that he thanked God for the new country of South Sudan.

Sheikh Lam urged international donors to support the Muslim community, especially women, so that they can contribute to the development of their future.

He added that women needed education, because they played a major role in building a strong community.

Sheikh Abdun Motir Gon said Muslims communities in South Sudan need to organize themselves and promote their own instruction since Khartoum failed to educate them about Islam.

He added that about 80 percent of South Sudanese Muslims are ignorant about religion.

Sheikh Motir urged the government to help Muslims to learn English because it is the official language in South Sudan.

Sheikh Motir urged the government to cooperate with Muslim scholars so that Muslims are not left behind in South Sudan.
