The Anticorruption Commission is drafting a bill to be able to convict and prosecute corrupt individuals and organizations, adding some clout to its actions.

Deputy Chairperson Johnny Saverio Ayik told journalists at the end of a two-day consultative workshop held in Juba that the government of South Sudan has taken a step further to fight corruption in the new country, Bakhita Radio reported.

He explained that the Anticorruption Commission is preparing a Bill in order to be able to investigate and persecute officials suspected of corruption.

He added that the new law will stop corrupted people running away from justice.

Mr. Saverio said the new law will give the Commission the right to investigate anybody suspected of corruption including officials who have run away and stay abroad.

He revealed that those found guilty of corruption will lose their posts and face fines and prison terms after devolving what they took.

The workshop was attended by a number of stakeholders including religious leaders and members of the press.
