Eastern Equatoria state governor ordered that all internally displaced persons in Nimule be registered pending repatriation to their home areas after the South Sudan independence.
Louis Lobong Lojore issued the directives of Saturday in Nimule while meeting representatives of the IDPs and the local Ma’di community, Emmanuel Radio reported. The meeting was aimed at bringing harmony and peaceful co-existence between the two groups after a history of differences following an influx of IDPs with thousands of cattle into an agricultural corridor.
Though the governor disputed that there were still IDPs in Southern Sudan, he said people who wanted to stay in the area should follow the rules and norms of the indigenous community.
Mr. Lobong added that the state will provide transport for the IDPs to return to their home areas of Jonglei State.
