GoSS Minister for Finance and Economic Planning announced today that the new South Sudanese Pound is being printing to hit the markets immediately after Independence Day.
David Deng Athorbyei told the press this morning in Juba that the printing is secret because South Sudan is not yet an independent state.
He added that the South Sudan Pound notes have Dr. John Garang’s face and display culture, heritage and wealth symbols of the new state.
Mr. Deng said a European company was contracted for the printing adding that it will release the new money when the USA or UK acknowledges the independence of South Sudan.
Mr. Deng added that the North may issue a new currency on July 9, 2011.
