The government of South Sudan signed yesterday a new water deal with Egypt concerning the use of the White Nile River.

GoSS spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists yesterday that the visit of a high level Egyptian delegation headed by the prime minister signalled full collaboration between South Sudan and Egypt.

He added that GoSS signed a new water deal with Egypt that will strengthen bilateral cooperation.

GoSS Water minister Paul Mayom said the people of Egypt should not be afraid about the White Nile flow because there are legal procedures that guide river water sharing.

Egypt’s minister of water and irrigation Hussein Al-Atfi said GoSS President Salva Kiir has assured the people of Egypt that there was already an agreement between South and North Sudan concerning the water sharing.

The Egyptian delegation that was yesterday in Juba pledged to complete all the development projects it promised since 2006, including water and electricity plants in four towns of South Sudan.
