A media association organized a debate on future of journalism and the bills of rights in independent South Sudan.

Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) chairman Jacob Akol told SCR News that the meeting is the third of its kind and importance.

He added that it is bringing the media together to put their house in order and work with the government so that the media laws can be passed.

Mr. Akol said that these laws are very important for the media to operate and for the people of South Sudan to access information.

AMDISS secretary Hakim Darios Moi said the meeting was a landmark because it came after the people of South voted 99.8 percent for independence.

Mr. Darios added that AMDISS will reiterate its founding principles as South Sudan faces the challenges of nation building.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit addressed the two-day meeting earlier in the evening.
