The government of South Sudan is to enforce specific laws against gender based violence.

GoSS minister for Gender, Child and Social Welfare Agnes Kwaje Lasuba told the participants on a gender based violence workshop this morning in Juba that the statistics on violence against women and girls are unacceptable.

Ms. Kwaje said government needs to enact specific legislations to deal with cases of gender violence, sexual harassment, trafficking and rape.

The minister urged the 25 participants in ten-day workshop to stop traditions that defend gender based violence and encourage women and girls to report sexual crimes committed against them to the courts.

Ms. Kwaje said beating women to death should be stopped immediately.

The minister added that it is the right for women to report to the courts all gender based violence so that victims can get justice.

The capacity building master training is being attended by 25 participants from the ten states of South Sudan.
