Governor of Lakes State said basic facilities in Rumbek need to be improved if the town is selected to host the July New Nation celebration, expressing confidence that his government can make the necessary preparations within the remaining time.
Chol Tong Mayay told the press at his office in Rumbek on Tuesday that Freedom Square and the airport need to be revamped.He added that the airstrip will be asphalted to meet international standards and allow bigger planes to land, Good News Radio reported.
Eng. Tong said the powerhouse should also be finished.
The Governor added that his government is working on accommodation facilities for dignitaries including the completion of the State House.
Eng Tong spoke about the importance of security, recognizing the efforts of those responsible for maintaining law and order in his state in recent days.
The governor added that all the facilities can be made ready within the remaining five months or less.
The President of the Government of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, formed a committee to prepare for the celebration and choose the venue.
The Committee is headed by GoSS Vice President, Dr. Riak Machar, and includes the ten governors of South Sudan and 15 ministers.
