LAKES OFFICIAL RECOGNIZES KEY CHURCH ROLE DURING REFERENDUM

A Lakes State official recognized the role of the Church during the South Sudan referendum describing the successful exercise as a miracle.

Marko Chol Machiech, who is a state political advisor and chairs the State referendum taskforce, thanked the Church for its contribution to the process of the referendum, Good News Radio reported.

Mr. Chol told the participants of the thirteenth annual assembly of the Diocese of Rumbek yesterday morning that the adequate peaceful environment for the referendum came through the prayers, advice and cooperation of the Church.

Mr. Chol described the referendum as a miracle for the manner in which it was conducted: peaceful, free, fair and transparent.

He said the recognition of the results by President Bashir and the National Congress Party was another miracle.

Mr. Chol encouraged the Church to continue planning for the future of the people of South Sudan.
