A huge crowd gathered yesterday afternoon at Yei Freedom Square to celebrate the announcement of the final referendum results on Tuesday in Khartoum.
Members from different tribes living in Yei performed traditional dances to express joy for the announcement of the results.Members of the Episcopal Church of Sudan marched through the streets singing songs of peace.
The gathering that started at two in the afternoon ended peacefully at six in the evening.
The Catholic Radio Network (CRN) is a media project constituted by community-based radio stations broadcasting in Frequency Modulation from Juba, Yei, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, Tonj, Wau, and Malakal. CRN has also a station in the Nuba Mountains. All the stations share the same vision and mission, and are bound by common editorial and administrative policies. All stations broadcast shared programs in English: news, civic education, and other educational programs. Due to the heterogeneous realities of South Sudan, each station is rooted in its locality and broadcasts locally produced culture-sensitive programs in the languages which are understood by the local people. For its outreach, CRN has a potential audience of about seven million people, considering the influx of returnees to South Sudan after the Sudan Population Census 2008.
