Lack of petrol in most parts of Eastern Equatoria is crippling the movement of people and goods, forcing a sharp increase on prices.
One litre of juice jumped from five to seven Sudanese pounds while a pair of dry cells is one pound more expensive costing 3.50, Emmanuel Radio reported.Mike Ulaku, a bodaboda driver in Torit lamented that there is a severe shortage of petrol and the fuel costs seven pounds per litre.
Mr. Ulaku added that bike-riders increased the transport fare from three to five pounds within the town and from five to seven pounds to Hai Mission, a distance of about two kilometres from the centre of Torit.
He complained that fuel companies are promising new supplies of petrol for the last week but the stations remained dry.
HASS Petroleum manager who identified himself as Abdurazak said in a telephone interview that fuel is expected to arrive today in Torit.
He explained that there were delays in clearing fuel tankers in Khartoum and the company decided to import it from Kenya through Uganda.
Mr. Abdurazak added that HASS tankers are being held in Khartoum.
