The Governor of Lakes State said the new nation of South Sudan will require strategic thinking to reach the level of development of other nations.

Chol Tong Mayay made this statement on Monday night at Rumbek Freedom Square soon after the official promulgation of the referendum results, Good News Radio reported

Eng. Tong said strategic thinking involving proper setting up of priorities was key to overcome South Sudan’s lack of technological and infrastructural development.

He said the priorities included good governance, security, rule of law, and the provision of essential services like education, health care, water and energy.

The Governor urged the new country to develop agricultural and microfinance projects, explaining that the development of the private sector will accelerate the growth of the economy.

Eng. Tong congratulated all South Sudanese their fighting spirit during the 50 years of wars and underdevelopment.

He thanked women, the youth, chiefs, politicians, government officials, members of the organized forces, civil servants and religious groups together with the international community for making the referendum a success.

South Sudan will be declared the newest nation of the world on July 9.
